Is America Watching Europe?

Understanding The Times

Weekly e-update by Jan Markell

It might seem that Europe is imploding. And America needs to be taking notes.

Author Mark Steyn has written a book titled "America Alone." He suggests an America that will stand alone against an Islamic world. Steyn says, "It's very difficult to foresee a way in which Europe can save itself from the consequences of its really outrageous irresponsibility these last few decades." He continues, "Europe is basically a post-Christian culture. It is difficult to foresee a way in which Europe can save itself from the consequences of its really outrageous irresponsibility these last few decades."

One of the irresponsibilities is allowing mass immigration of Muslims and then following a course that overdoses on tolerance and diversity. In other words, if Muslims are rioting in any given city of Europe, blame it on their economic plight, not on the fact that they very often do behave like barbarians and even kill and maim innocent people.

What else happens when a culture falls apart and when Christianity is dumped? Today hundreds of literal pagans serving prison sentences in the U.K. will get a day off of prison work out of respect for their special holiday--Halloween. Prison service bosses have instructed staff to grant the special privileges to all pagans including Satanists. All who practice the broad range of paganism must be allowed to "celebrate" on October 31. This is their day. And all the tricks of their trade can be implemented.

Part of this is due to the fact that the prisons don't want to be sued by the inmates who have "inalienable rights." Since when did prisoners have such rights when they took away the rights of their victims? Since when was jail fair? In the U.K. it appears that tolerance, diversity, and multi-culturalism sees to it that thugs and murderers are given their inalienable rights even though they have no respect for society as they know it.

At the same time, some Christians are denied some equal rights at Christmas. Muslims get to take the entire month of Ramadan off from prison work.

Steyn says his book is a wakeup call urging Americans not to let a multicultural mindset cause the same sort of cultural collapse as the Europeans are experiencing.

Many already call America a post-Christian culture but I disagree. I believe we are heading that way but right now Christianity and Christians are blocking the paganization of America. But for how long? God is either mocked or shut out of almost every segment of American society. Americans spend more money on Halloween decorations than any other holiday other than Christmas. Once a year it is a good idea, even among some Christians, to focus on fear, death, and the macabre that is a part of Halloween. Once a year it is just fine to participate in a holiday that centers on darkness rather than on "the light of the world."

And is it even yearly? Perhaps it is daily but such things are given their special day every October 31.

America needs to be watching Europe. It is in a sorry state primarily because it acknowledges that it does not need God. Churches have shut down and while there is often a state religion, few pay any attention to it. Perhaps because Europe turned its back on God, God has turned His back on Europe.

As I said, America should be paying careful attention.

Awaiting His return,

Jan Markell
